Let's dive into the stars of the show – the fish you'll be chasing on Lake Erie. First up, the walleye. These bad boys are the bread and butter of Erie fishing, and for good reason. They're not just delicious; they're crafty fighters that'll test your skills. Walleye typically range from 2 to 10 pounds, with the best action happening in spring and fall. When you hook into a big 'eye, you'll feel that signature head shake – it's like they're trying to morse code their way off your line!
Next, we've got the yellow perch. Don't let their size fool you; these tasty little nuggets are a blast to catch. They school up in huge numbers, so when you find 'em, it's often non-stop action. Perch fishing heats up in late summer and fall, and there's nothing quite like pulling up a double or triple on your spread. Plus, they're arguably the best-tasting freshwater fish out there – get ready for some epic fish fries!
Last but not least, the smallmouth bass. These bronze bruisers are pound-for-pound some of the hardest fighting fish in the lake. They love to hang around rocky structure and will absolutely crush your bait. Spring and early summer are prime time for smallies, but you can catch 'em all season long. When a big smallmouth goes airborne, shaking its head like a wet dog, you'll see why anglers come from all over to tangle with Erie's bronzebacks.
Alright, folks, let's cut to the chase – this trip is the real deal. You've got a top-notch captain, prime fishing grounds, and some of the best eating fish in the Great Lakes just waiting to jump in your cooler. Whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, Mr. Twister Charters delivers the goods. So what are you waiting for? Grab your buddies, clear your schedule, and let's make some memories on Lake Erie. Trust me, once you feel that first hit, you'll be counting down the days until your next trip. Book now and get ready for some serious fish tales – 'cause with Captain Sib at the helm, you're in for one heck of a ride!

They were very flexible with our start time—we got going at 9am. If we had started earlier, we probably would’ve caught even more fish. We’ll definitely be back next year, and next time we’re pushing off at 7am!

Captain Sib and Dan were awesome. While the fishing was a bit slow, it definitely wasn’t for lack of effort—they went above and beyond to put us on fish. A recent storm and rough water made conditions tough, but we still had a great time on the water. It was a first-class experience, and I’m already looking forward to booking with them again next year—hopefully with better weather during my window. One tip: plan to arrive early or come the day before to get familiar with the marina. The signage and directions there aren’t very clear.

American Yellow Perch are scrappy little fighters that'll keep you busy all day. These golden-colored fish usually run 7-8 inches long, but can reach up to 20 inches if you're lucky. You'll find them hanging out near weeds, docks, and other structures in Lake Erie's shallower areas. They're schooling fish, so when you catch one, there's likely more nearby. Spring and fall are prime perch seasons, but they bite year-round. Folks love targeting perch because they're fun to catch and taste amazing. Their white, flaky meat is a local delicacy. To land some perch, use light tackle with 2-4 lb line. Minnows, worms, or small jigs work great. Here's a local tip: if you're not getting bites, try downsizing your bait and hook. Sometimes the smaller offerings are irresistible to perch. Keep your eyes peeled for diving birds – they often give away where the schools are feeding.
Smallmouth Bass in Lake Erie are hard-fighting fish that'll give you a run for your money. These bronze beauties typically range from 2-4 pounds, with some trophy fish pushing 6 pounds or more. Look for them around rocky areas, drop-offs, and submerged structures in clear water. Spring and fall are prime smallmouth seasons when they're in shallower water. During summer, they'll move deeper to stay cool, but early mornings and evenings can still be productive. Anglers love smallies for their acrobatic fights - they'll leap out of the water and make strong runs. They're also great eating, with firm, white meat. To catch them, try soft plastic baits, tube jigs, or crankbaits that mimic crayfish or small baitfish. Here's a local tip: when the water's calm, watch for "nervous water" – slight disturbances on the surface. That's often a sign of smallmouth chasing bait. Cast beyond the disturbance and retrieve through it for some exciting topwater action.
Walleye are the prize catch of Lake Erie, known for their tasty fillets and challenging nature. These olive-gold fish average 2-3 pounds but can top out at 20. They're depth-dwellers, usually hanging out 10 feet down or deeper, especially during daylight hours. You'll find walleye near underwater structures like rock piles and deep weed edges. They're most active at dawn and dusk, making those prime fishing times. Spring and fall are excellent seasons, but summer nights can be productive too. Anglers love walleye for their fight and their reputation as one of the best-tasting freshwater fish. To catch 'em, try trolling with minnow-style lures or jigging near the bottom. Here's a local secret: on calm evenings, cast shallow-running crankbaits parallel to shoreline structure for some exciting topwater action. Remember, walleye have excellent low-light vision, so don't be afraid to fish when it's overcast or even after dark. Patience is key with these guys, but the reward is well worth it.
